So when the weather won't allow for a ride, there are other things to do. Yesterday, instead of a ride, Laura OLPH dragged a few of us (her husband Professor Jack, Winter Larry, and The Excellent Wife [TEW] and I), down to the Wheaton Arts Center, where there's a glass museum and art exhibition space, a furnace for blowing glass, and shops.
Laura's been blowing glass on one-off occasions and trainings for years. This past semester, she took a course at Bucks County College, and I'm impressed. Go see some of her "Hot Mess" posts.
I forgot my camera, and none of the pictures on my cheapo-cheapo phone came out, so I'll link to Laura's (and probably steal some) when she posts.
The rain was steady, and heavy at times, and some of the paths were flooded to the level that shoes would have gotten drenched; it was easier to walk on the lawns. But the exhibit was huge. South Jersey was a glassmaking center from before the American Revolution, and there were exhibits of historical glass, art glass, and glass oddities. And then we went to the furnace building and saw three teams working on blowing glass. It was fascinating, and now I'm even more impressed with what she's doing... and even more impressed that she's NOT impressed with her own creations.
And it's good to get out with the bike-y friends even when we're not riding. This was a great day, even if it was long (the ride down took a long time) and during the demanding Christmas season.
